New to Georgia? If you are relocating to Georgia, there are some things you'll need to know. One of them is registering your vehicle and getting your car tag or license plate.
You must register your vehicle within 30 days of residency.
Bring to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV):
1. Car title, name and address of lienholder or a copy of your vehicle lease agreement
2. Current tag registration
3. Mileage reading of your vehicle
4. Proof of insurance
5. Emmission Certificate (if applicable) That's for vehicles between 1984 and 2006. Check out CleanAirForce for more information.
The other thing is changing your driver's license within 30 days of moving. To get your new license you'll need to provide:
1. your old driver's license
2. 2 pieces of identification
3. an eye exam at the time of issue
4. $20 fee (cash only) for a 5 year license or $35 for a 10 year license
You'll get your driver's license through the Georgia Department of Driver Services. There are several locations around Atlanta. For more information check out http://www.dds.ga.gov
The 30 day rule for changing your driver's license applies everytime you move. Your picture can stay the same, but you must update your address.
