Shredding Event - Smyrna & Marietta

Shredding Event - Smyrna & Marietta   As tax time approaches I'm always reminded that we have too much paper that needs to be shredded.  There's a great solution for Smyrna and Marietta GA area residents.   A free Document Shredding Day will be held on Saturday March 24th, 2012 from 9 a.m. until noon.  

Iron Mountain Document Services will provide the shredding free of charge. Shredding will be done on site and recycled.  There is a limit of 100 pounds of paper per vehicle (4 file boxes) Paper must be dry, and no electronics, cardboard, binders, or plastic will be accepted.

Locations include:  

  • Wolfe Adult Recreation Center parking lot, 884 Church Street in Smyrna
  • Piedmont Church, 570 Piedmont Road, Marietta
  • Marietta City Limits, 591 N. Marietta Parkway, Marietta

Christmas Tree Recycling in Cobb County GA

Cobb Christmas Tree Recycling - Now that Christmas is over, Keep Cobb Beautiful is inviting everyone to "Bring One for the Chipper", and recycle your Christmas tree.  

In appreciation of your recycling efforts, participants will receive a seedling on January 8th while supplies last at Home Depot, Lost Mountain Park and Sewell Park.

"Bring One For the Chipper" is sponsored state-wide by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs' Keep Georgia Beautiful program Georgia Power Company, The Home Depot, The Davey Tree Company, Cobb EMC, WXIA-TV, and local Keep America Beautiful affiliates. 

Home Depot Locations will accept trees only on January 8th, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cobb County Parks sites will accept trees from December 26, 2010 until January 8, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Volunteers will be at the park sites during these hours to accept the trees.  No other items will be allowed to be dropped off at sites.Christmas Tree Recycling in Cobb County GA

The recycled trees are put to good use by making mulch used to beautify local parks and schools.  Landfill space is saved because the average Christmas tree weighs 20 pounds and fills almost as much landfill space as a washing machine! That's a lot of wasted space.

Davey Trees at 770-451-7911, as well as the Cobb Parks chipper locations will have free mulch available to citizens after January 9th.

Decatur Electronics Recycling Day

Decatur Electronics Recycling Day Fall 2010 - It's that time of year again. Start gathering your items and plan your stop for recycling.  Most of us have a few things that should be recycled rather than tossed in the trash.

Below is the pertinent information:

What: Decatur Electronics Recycling Day Fall 2010 Recyling in Decatur GA

When: Saturday, October. 30, 2010  9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Where: Decatur High School Parking Lot which is at the corner of N. McDonough Street and Howard Avenue

Why: This semi-annual event has been hugely successful at diverting electronic equipment from landfills, where they may contaminate soil and water.

Who: Volunteers assist in unloading items. To volunteer, please contact Sandy Johnson at 404-377-5571.  Anybody can drop items off. You do not need to be a Decatur resident to participate.

Items that can be Recycled: Desktop computers, Telephones, Mini-towers, Telephony equipment, Laptop computers, Adding machines, Monitors, Calculators, Servers, Typewriters, Workstations, Label makers,Keyboards, Copiers, Mice, Fax machines, Joystick game controllers, Answering machines, Printers, Printer cartridges, Digital cameras , Zip drives, Batteries, Speakers, PDAs, Pagers, VCRs, Hubs, DVD players, Routers, Cable converter boxes, Scanners, Remote controls, Digital projectors, Stereo equipment, GPS units, Radios, Main frames, Portable CD players, Component parts, Portable game players, Cables, GPS receivers, 3-in-1 devices, printer/copier/ fax machines., Electric lawn mowers and garden equipment, any kind of Battery.

TVs will be recycled for a minimal fee of $10 cash only per TV set with exact change. There is no charge to recycle other items.

What happens to the stuff you drop off?  Electronics dropped off that day will be sorted and disassembled into raw materials or cleaned for re use.

Early drop offs are not possible.

Decatur Electronics Recycling Day Spring 2009

Decatur has an Electronics Recycling Day twice a year in the Fall and in the Spring. Due to the rainy weather the Electronics Recycling Day has been moved to Saturday, April 25th, 2009  from 9 am to 1 pm in the Decatur High School parking lot.  

These are the things that can be recycled:

Almost anything with an electrical cord can be recycled at the event EXCEPT microwave ovens, furniture, light fixtures, household appliances, lamps, vacuum cleaners..

These items will be recycled for free:  computers, Telephones, Mini-towers, Telephony equipment,  Adding machines, Monitors, Calculators, Servers, Typewriters, Workstations, Label makers, Keyboards, Copiers, Mice, Fax machines, Joystick game controllers, Answering machines, Printers, Printer cartridges, Digital cameras, Zip drives, Batteries, Speakers, PDAs, Pagers, VCRs, Hubs, DVD players, Routers, Cable converter boxes, Scanners, Remote controls, Digital projectors, Stereo equipment ,UPS units, Radios, Main frames, Portable CD players, Component parts, Portable game players, Cables, GPS receivers, 3-in-1 devices, printer/copier/fax machines, Electric lawn mowers and garden equipment, any kind of Battery. Clean Styrofoam free of foreign objects(peanuts, packing blocks, plates, cups, trays)  

Television sets will be recycled for $10, exact change only.

For your own security, be sure to remove your personal data from your computers before recycling. This event is open to the public. You do not need to be a resident of Decatur to recycle your items.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree

DeKalb County residents can recycle their Christmas Trees after the holidays. Trees can be dropped off from Monday, January 5th through Friday, January 9th :

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday:  8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

In exchange for recycling their treesat the landfill, participants can receive a free dogwood seedling. Dogwoods will be given out at the landfill and at the Keep DeKalb Beautiful office, while supplies last. The recycled trees will be chipped into mulch or used as wildlife habitat.

Mulch is used for public beautification projects and is free to DeKalb County residents. 

If you don't want to drop it off, residents who are currently serviced by DeKalb County Sanitation may also leave their trees for curbside pick-up. With an average of 10,000 trees recycled each year in DeKalb, Keep DeKalb Beautiful would like to encourage residents to participate in this annual program.
