The Decatur Beach Party is back again. On Friday June 18th from 5 p.m. to Midnight downtown Decatur GA will be turned into a beach.  For those that don't know, Decatur is no where near a beach, so this is a lot of fun for us.  

Decatur brings in 60 tons of sand and turns the square into a beach for this annual event. Ponce de Leon Ave will be closed between Church Street and Clairmont Ave. There will be dancing to the beach music from the live band. Activities include children's boardwalk games, face painting and wading pools in the sand. I'm sure some will build sandcastles too.

Adults $6.50 in advance, available for online purchase here, and $10 at the gate; children 12 and under, free (limit two children per paying adult).

Just like anywhere else, there are rules. So, no coolers, glass or pets allowed please. Sponsored by Decatur Business Association. Proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefit downtown improvement projects.

The Oakhurst Elementary School Online Auction will be open until April 16th, 2010. Proceeds from this auction will benefit students of Oakhurst Elementary School in Decatur, GA by funding 2010-2011 field trip experiences.

Village Walk in Decatur GA

Village Walk is a small community in the city limits of Decatur GA.  It's off of Commerce Drive near College Ave. Village Walk Drive and Village Walk Court are the 2 streets that make up the Decatur subdivision.

There are 25 brick cluster homes in Village Walk. They were built in 1999 and 2000. They range in square footage from just under 2000 square feet to just over 3300 square feet.  The homes are 3 & 4 bedroom plans with 3 to 3.5 baths. They all have 2 car garages.  The lots are small and low maintenance, like we see in many in-town neighborhoods.  

Village Walk is within easy walking distance to Decatur restaurants including Fellini's Pizza. Keswick Place in Decatur GA

Keswick Place townhomes are located within the 4 square miles that is the City of Decatur in Dekalb County, GA.  Keswick Place is located at 1335 Church St. Decatur GA 30030.

There are 19 homes in this quaint community.  They are all 3 levels with 2 car garages and large decks built for entertaining.

Medlock Place is a gated community in Decatur GA. There is no entrance sign naming it, but the street is Vivian Circle. It's off of Medlock Road convenient to the 6 way intersection of Scott Blvd, North Decatur Rd and Medlock Rd.

Medlock Place has 15 homes. They were built in 2000 and are traditional 3 story homes of brick and hard coat stucco.  The small low maintenance lots are typical for in town living.

The 2 car garages are rear entry on some of the homes and front entry on the others.  When you enter the home, most of them, but not all have several steps that go to the main level which is comprised of a formal dining room and a kitchen open to the family room with hardwood floors.  All of the homes have back decks for outside dining or entertaining.  On the lower garage level there is usually a bedroom, a bonus room and a full bath.  There are 3 and 4 bedroom plans most with 3.5 baths.

Nearby neighbors to Medlock Place include Medlock Commons. That's next door to the right.  Ridgeland Park begins across the street from Medlock Place on Greylock Place and Medlock Park is just across North Decatur Rd.

For recreation, local parks include City of Decatur's Glen Lake Park and Tennis Courts, Medlock Park and the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve.

Medlock Place is in the Dekalb County school system. Students attend Medlock Elementary, Shamrock Middle and Druid Hills High School.  There are also many private schools in the vicinity.

It's rare to see a home for sale in Medlock Place but every few years we'll see one. There is one currently for sale for $439,000.

Midway Woods in Decatur GA-

Midway Woods is in Decatur GA in unincorporated Dekalb County, GA. There are 18 homes currently for sale ranging in price from $89,000 for a 4 bedroom/1 bath built in 1953 on Woodfern Drive to a 3 bedroom/2.5 bath on Carter Road for $335,000. That one was built in 2003.

Midway Woods is comprised of mostly brick bungalows built 1950-1953 on tree lined streets. There are some newer construction homes in the neighborhood too, like the one on Midway Rd. It's a 3 bedroom/2 full bath home built in 1999 listed for $224,900.

In 2009 17 homes were sold. They ranged in price from an investor's dream at $57,000 to $230,000.

Midway Woods has a strong neighborhood association. It's not a Homeowner's Association with covenants, but a neighborhood association to keep neighbors connected and informed. Monthly meetings take place on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm located at Columbia Presbyterian Church. (711 South Columbia Drive Decatur, GA 30030) 

Students residing in Midway Woods attend Dekalb County's Midway Elementary, Avondale Middle and Avondale High School. In Atlanta and Decatur, most people find it necessary to have a car. For those that can get where they're going by bus, there is a MARTA Bus Stop right on Midway Woods Rd near Deerwood Drive.

For recreation, also at the corner of Midway Woods and Deerwood Drive (1301 Deerwood Drive) is another one of Dekalb County's Parks. Dearborn Park has 7 acres with a basketball court, multi-use court, picnic pavilions, running streams, and playground. Dekalb County has a great park system. It seems like there is one convenient to just about every neighborhood.

9th Annual Oakhurst Wine Crawl - Tickets are now available for the 9th annual Oakhurst Wine Crawl in Decatur GA.
