Decatur Holiday Bonfire & Marshmallow Roast

You're invited to the Holiday Bonfire and Marshmallow Roast.  It's Thursday, December 17th from 7 to 8 pm 2009 in downtown Decatur GA. It's also the last day of Terrific Thursdays in Decatur for the season.  Be sure to stop in many of the shops and restaurants while you are there. They will be open late.

Want to do something different? Check out Ghost Tours in Decatur, GA. It's an easy 1 mile walk that takes about 2 hours and leaves from the Bandstand in downtown Decatur. It goes to the old train depot and through the Historic Decatur Cemetary.

I haven't been yet, but one of my friends went on the Ghost Tour recently and said it was awesome! Hmmm, will this change my mind about walking through the old cemetary, as so many people do for their workouts?

Terrific Thursdays are back in Decatur, GA! From now through December 17, be sure to check out Decatur  for holiday shopping and special events.  On Thursdays you'll find good deals at Decatur's hottest shops, galleries and restaurants. Park once and take Decatur's Pedicabs for free around town. Participating businesses will stay open late, offering beverages, snacks and special offers. In December you'll see Santa visiting shops and restaurants within the city limits.

My friends and I make Terrific Thursdays our weekly get together. Each week, we "tackle" a different part of Downtown Decatur for shopping. After the stores close, usually by 9 p.m. we'll stop at one of the great bars and restaurants in Decatur like Parkers on Ponce, Leon's, the Brick Store Pub or the Chocolate Bar. It's a great excuse to get together, socialize and support our local Decatur businesses. I hope to see you there!

8th Annual Decatur Wine Festival - Decatur GA

Come taste over 350 domestic and imported wines and enjoy live music from the community bandstand during the 8th annual Decatur Wine Festival. The weather should be great for this event with high temps in the mid 60's.

Heliotrope is one of the many great shops in downtown Decatur, GA.  We were in there Thursday night for Terrific Thursdays in Decatur.  We sipped on wine while we browsed throughout the store.  If you are looking for a unique gift, this is the place. There are baby gifts, items for your pets and your household. Retro things like Sock Monkeys are here. For the upcoming holidays you can get your "Elf on a Shelf". For housewarming gifts or a hostess gift, this place is great. You can't help smiling when you walk into this store.

Heliotrope is having their 2nd Anniversary party on Saturday November 15th from 6 to 10 p.m. When you come into the shop there will be drawings from 10 to 50% off and a chance to win a $200 shopping spree! If you haven't been to a Concert on the Square in Decatur, GA now is the time to get out and enjoy these free events.  The concerts are played at the center of the Square in the Gazebo behind the old Courthouse.  Bring your blankets and a cooler and just relax. Concerts are every Saturday night in May and September from 7-9:30 pm.  Stick around after the show and visit one of the many local pubs and restaurants.  Or get some food to go and enjoy it on the lawn.  These events are just another reason why Decatur, GA is a great place to live, work and play.

From the MARTA rail line:
Go to Decatur Station (E-6). Take east exit for Church Street and west exit for bandstand.

From I-285 Southbound: (Stone Mountain, Snellville, Athens, Conyers)
Take Stone Mountain Freeway (US 78) west (Exit 39A). About 1/2 mile after divided highway ends and becomes Scott Boulevard. Bear left onto Church Street. Continue on Church Street about two miles to downtown Decatur.

From I-285 Northbound: (College Park, Fayetteville, Henry Co, Airport)
Get off at Covington Highway (US 278) (Exit 43) and turn left. Continue through downtown Avondale Estates (where Covington Highway becomes Main Street) past the Avondale MARTA station. Turn right onto E. Trinity Place.

From I-85:
Get off at Clairmont Road Exit (91) and go south on Clairmont about 4 1/2 miles until it dead-ends at the Old Courthouse. Turn left onto E. Ponce de Leon Avenue, go one block and turn right onto Church Street.

From North (Chamblee, Toco Hills):
Take Clairmont Road south until it dead-ends at the Old Courthouse. Turn left onto Ponce de Leon Avenue, go one block and turn right onto Church Street.

From I-20 (South):
Take Candler Road (Exit 65) north about four miles. After crossing railroad tracks, the road bears to the left and becomes E. Trinity Place.

From East (Clarkston, Scottdale):
Take East Ponce de Leon Avenue west. Just past Avondale MARTA station, turn left onto Sycamore Street.

From West (Midtown, Virginia-Highland):
Take Ponce de Leon Avenue east to downtown Decatur. After passing Old Courthouse, turn right on Church Street.

From West (Downtown Atlanta):
Take DeKalb Avenue east to downtown Decatur (DeKalb Avenue becomes Howard in Decatur). Turn left on McDonough Street at Decatur High School.
