Wide Angle Magnetic Camera Lens Review

Wide Angle Magnetic Camera Lens Review - I'll start off by saying, I'm no expert when it comes to cameras and lenses. I just knew that I wanted to be able to take wide angles of rooms and real estate. I also knew that I didn't want to buy another camera.

My camera is a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS Digital Elph. I like that it's little and can easily fit in my pocket. I also like that it's easy to use.

Late Friday afternoon I started doing a google search for wide angle magnetic lenses. I found a company called Adorama that sold them online. For those that don't know what a magnetic lens is, it's a lens that attaches with a magnetic ring to the metal lens on your camera. No fancy equipment required.

I took a chance and ordered the large lens. It was $29.95 and shipping was $5.00. It's Tuesday and it arrived this morning by UPS. I thought that was pretty quick considering it was the weekend.

I tried it out today and these are the results. I am standing in the exact same spot with both of the following pictures.

Shot with normal lens

Here is the picture with the wide angle magnetic lens attached.

Shot with wide angle magnetic lens

There is some fuzziness on the bottom right. If needed that could be cropped out and it would still give a wider shot that what I could get without the wide angle magnetic lens. I also tested it inside and was able to get a whole room in the picture. That is going to make real estate photos so much better. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

I have an Olympus SP350 compact camera and found screw mount lenses available.  I've found it is better than before, but I also have to crop out the corners to avoid some distortion.

Hi Jen - That seems a small investment to be able to get so much into your photos.  Looks like you did good!

Hi Jen,

Good luck with the new wide angle attachment, no doubt we need wide angle in real estate.

Make sure you remember to store the magnet away from your data cards, laptop and hard drives. Magnets are very good at wiping out data fast.

Dan, I think the wide angle lens is so important in our photos. I'm glad you found something that works for you.

Wayne, For a small cost I think it makes a big difference.

Susan, I'm actually looking forward to redoing some photos of my listings now.

John, Thanks for the heads up on that. If it's in my purse next to my cell phone can it wipe out the data on my phone?

Thanks for the tip, Jen.  Now I don't have to run out and buy an expensive camera.  I don't think you need to worry about your phone.  Many of the cases phones fit into are magnetic :)

Hi Jen,

Short answer - yes. Keep them separated.

Hi Jen, I am on the lookout for a new camera, but could not decide if I will go with light and easy or more advanced and bulky. Still working on it. Picture looks good :-)

I just love a wide angle lens for my Re pics, they really capture the room not just a corner...

Jane, no new expensive cameras needed. I've seen your pics and it looks like what you use works just fine. You're right, my cell phone case does have a magnet on it.

Thanks John, Just in case I will keep them separated. That's easy enough.

Barbara, my vote is for light and easy. That way you can always have it with you. I take hundreds of pictures a month, probably because it's so easy.

Caron's Gateway, I'm excited about the new lens. It's catches so much more. It's my newest must have tool.

I went and bought one for my Olympus anyway through Amazon.  Price was similar. Adorama didn't have one.

Would like to see some inside pictures.  It does look like the distortion is minimal and could be cropped or maybe skewed to make it better.  I took the liberty of doing a little straightening and some other enhancements.

I forgot one more thing, when you take a picture with these add ons, carefully take your picture because when you straighten it you will loose parts of it.

You might also try some stitching software...  You can shoot multiple shots and stitch them together.  I haven't tried this, but here is one...
